Here’s the problem
Plot
Adaptation of James Patterson’s novel about the complex and brilliant detective Alex Cross. Hodge is the third actor to portray Cross, following in the footsteps of Morgan Freeman, who first played him on screen in 1997’s Kiss the Girls and again in the 2001 sequel Along Came a Spider; and Tyler Perry as the titular character in 2012’s Alex Cross, which flopped at the box office and caused Lionsgate to scrap a previously planned sequel to Double Cross. I started following Aldis Hodge’s career when I fell in love with his character in Leverage. His performance as «hacker» Hardison was exceptional, and I completely agree with his performance as Alex Cross. The script is strong, the performances are excellent in every way, and the direction and editing are top-notch.
The lighting stinks
I don’t know anyone who spends every moment of their life indoors in such darkness. I’m only 40 minutes into the first episode, but I’m already having trouble seeing the details in many scenes. Three scenes in particular stand out. The first is a cocktail lounge. I don’t go to cocktail lounges or bars myself, but even in the darkest restaurant I’ve been to, there was enough light to see the faces of the other people at the table.
The second is the villain’s hideout
Would someone who works on detailed plans and projects really do it in such poor lighting? A perfectionist would certainly want to be able to see everything they do clearly. The third is the house where Alex shows up for dinner. This isn’t a romantic dinner for two. This is a family and friends gathering.
Why so dark?
The entire house is dark – the hallway, living room, and dining room. Also, every room in the police building is dark. Wouldn’t the coroner have a very well-lit operating room? If they’re trying to set a mood, I focus more on the struggle to watch than on the plot and dialogue. That’s been the choice of many programs in recent years.
My dad certainly couldn’t
You know, anyone with visual impairments simply wouldn’t be able to watch it. I could be wrong about the reason for the darkness, though. I stopped watching «How I Met Your Father» on another streaming service because it was so dark it was unpleasant. A little digging around the internet revealed that the problem was with the website, not the program itself. When the show aired online, the lighting was good.
